Salento’s most beautiful beaches
a few steps from Baia di Gallipoli
Salento is an area strongly influenced by winds.
If the wind blows, it can happen that, on the same day (and maybe even a few kilometers away), there is a storm on a beach and an enchanting Caribbean-like sea in another seaside resort.
Just do as the real Salento do! Before going to the beach, understand the wind and, if necessary, ask someone from Salento for advice.
We will point out some of the most beautiful places on the whole coast to see at least once in a lifetime.
GALLIPOLI
Punta della Suina - Pizzo
It is the most beautiful coastal stretch in Gallipoli, one of the jewels of the Ionian Sea, where the crystal clear turquoise and blue sea is combined with a low cliff mixed with sandy beaches. It is a nature reserve (the Punta Pizzo Park) characterized by low dunes with, behind it, a lush vegetation of the Mediterranean scrub and a dense pinewood forest, with a sea featuring emerald reflections on a beach of almost a kilometer, mostly free. . The sea is calm with the sirocco.
Spiaggia della Purità (Purità Beach)
Located in the historic center of Gallipoli, just below the ramparts, it is small but welcoming, its fine sand and crystal clear and calm water make it perfect for a safe swim even with the little ones. Experience not to be missed is an early morning swim. The sea is almost always calm, especially with winds from the south.
Baia Verde (The Green Bay)
It is the beach of the Gallipoli nightlife due to the many lidos that party until sunset. The sand is fine and clear, the seabed shallow and the water blue and clear. Ideal with the north wind.
PORTO SELVAGGIO
A real pearl set among rocks, Aleppo pines and holm oaks and reachable on foot via a path of around 20 minutes, the Porto Selvaggio Natural Park is a wonderful gravel and pebble beach.
The sea is crystal clear and the view is enchanting, for the more adventurous the rocks are splendid springboards to dive into the blue. Heading again towards Gallipoli you can admire the Torre di Santa Maria dell’ Alto and follow the guided tours to visit Grotta Gaia and Grotta Verde.
The ideal wind to visit this cove is the north wind (slightly rough with the west); if winds blow from the south it is better to give up.
PUNTA PROSCIUTTO
Wonderful wild and almost heavenly white coast. The beach is part of the White Beach Park and features a crystal clear sea (ideal with Tramontana wind).
The beach is located within the Palude del Conte Natural Park and is bordered to the north by Torre Colimena and to the south by Riva degli Angeli.
LIDO COCOLOCO (COCOLOCO BEACH)
A very special beach near Baia di Gallipoli is Lido CocoLoco, a place to let your thoughts go and enjoy the peace and magic of Salento (ideal with north wind).
Reachable on foot via a beautiful walkway set in the sand and surrounded by dunes covered with wild white lilies, at Lido CocoLoco you will find the right atmosphere to feel you are on holiday, away from the world and the frenzy of everyday life.
You cannot leave there without having tasted the delicious friselle with tomato and basil or having drunk the thirst-quenching Lecce coffee with almond milk, ideal for cooling off on the hottest days before diving into the crystal clear sea.
MALDIVE DEL SALENTO (PESCOLUSE)
It is a long beach of golden sand, with several shores, shallow water and clear and transparent water. Being an area very exposed to the winds it is not recommended with the sirocco, it is however worth visiting it with the north wind.
If you stay at Baia di Gallipoli you can reach these beaches in a short time and enjoy the wonder of Salento.
